For those of us who use not only job costing but departmental accounting we need the ability to enter employee hours by department for those who work in multiple departments during a pay period or per day. Currently, you can manually edit at the paycheque level but you must manually calculate what the value is for each item ie. wages, expenses, benefits etc which is extremely labour intensive and inefficient.
I appreciate the feedback. We actually use VeriClock for our time keeping which directly integrates and has two way communication with Sage. (Highly recommend). It manages the project allocation perfectly. The departmental allocation is actually a Sage issue as the software does not have the flexibility to allow employees to work across multiple departments. For those who don't know, departmental accounting allows us to view all the expenses and income by department to determine which are profitable rather than by individual job which is the job costing.
Hi, K Jones. You may want to look at switching your payroll over to Paydirt. Yes, it's a separate program and yes, you have to pay for the separate program. However, it does an excellent job of automatically allocating things, and it produces journal entries that can be imported into Sage. However, I'm not sure how it does with splitting by both departments and projects at the same time.... you'd have to ask the programmers at Paydirt. (Note: The help line at Paydirt is very, very responsive.)
